Referrals

  • Clinic appointments are available on referral basis.

  • Patients can be referred by their GP, by another health professional or they can self refer.

  • All referrals should be addressed to the consultant staff at St Georges.

  • Appointments will automatically be made at the patients closest hospital.

  • Specific referral criteria may apply.

Waiting Times

Clinics are on a monthly basis and the waiting times are usually in the order of 2-4 months. However if a the patient is pregnant, they will usually be seen within the week at the Prenatal clinic at St George's.

We will endeavour to accommodate other urgent appointment requests whenever possible.

Telephone advice for GPs and other health professionals is also available from the Clinical Staff during routine office hours.

NOTE: If the inquiry concerns a patient previously seen in the clinic it is helpful to give details of the patient first so the genetic records can be accessed at the start of the call.

Referral Criteria

Familial Colon Cancer

  1. One affected first degree relative under 45 with colorectal cancer.

  2. Two or more first degree relatives with colorectal or endometrial cancer * at any age.

  3. One first and one second degree relative on the same side of the family with colorectal or endometrial cancer *, either average age of onset less than 60, or one relative under 45.

  4. One first and two second degree relatives on the same side of the family with colorectal or endometrial cancer * at any age.

  5. One first degree relative who has developed either 2 colorectal cancers or one colorectal & one endometrial at any age.

  6. Amsterdam Criteria families or modified Amsterdam Criteria families.

  7. Families with a recognised genetic predisposition e.g. FAP (Familial Adenomatous Polyposis), MAP, Peutz Jegher Syndrome etc.

  8. Unusual types of GI polyps or unusual numbers of polyps.

*     There must be at least one colorectal cancer

If there is a history of other cancers within the family e.g. ovary, gastric, hepatobiliary, upper urinary tract, or of adenomas (polyps), these should be discussed with clinical genetics on an individual basis
